All About Auxiliary

Last month, we had the pleasure of attending the state conference for the Indiana Legion Auxiliary, where I met an inspiring group of women united by a single mission: to support our veterans and servicemembers. Our discussions centered around a vital topic: membership. We explored how to retain and engage current members, attract new junior and senior members, and spread the word about eligibility.

Let's dive into the basics – the Who, What, When, Where, and WHY of the Auxiliary:

WHO: The Auxiliary is a passionate community of volunteers dedicated to serving veterans, military personnel, and their families. We live by the motto "Service Not Self", showing our gratitude by honoring our veterans and fostering respect for our country.

WHAT: In collaboration with the American Legion and the Sons of the Legion, we engage in fundraising to provide essential services to veterans. Our activities include offering transportation to the VA, visiting veterans' homes, supporting local communities, promoting Americanism in schools, and ensuring that families of new enlistees feel supported and connected.

WHEN & WHERE: Our meetings take place on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00 PM at the American Legion, 1401 N Main Street. You can also find us actively participating in community events and parades. Growing our membership means we can do more in schools and communities. Remember, "it takes a village," and the Auxiliary is no different. More members mean lighter work and greater impact!

WHY: The Auxiliary is committed to providing a "hand up" to our veterans as a gesture of gratitude for their sacrifices. Joining offers a fulfilling opportunity to make a positive impact while connecting with like-minded individuals who share your values.

Please consider joining us in our shared mission. Membership is open to spouses, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, and granddaughters of veterans. Whether you join us for one activity or ten, your contribution is invaluable. Together, through small actions, we can express our appreciation and support for our veterans. Our vibrant community is driven by passion, friendship, and a shared commitment to making a real difference in the lives of veterans and their families. Together, we have the power to create positive changes and look forward to a future filled with new opportunities and successes!
