Commander's Corner

Wow — Another remarkable year at American Legion Post 20 is coming to a close.

As we look ahead to June, a number of new officers will be stepping into leadership roles, joined by some familiar faces to help guide the way. We encourage everyone to stay involved—attend meetings, volunteer, and help shape the future of Post 20. Your participation makes a difference!

This year has been full of meaningful moments and accomplishments. In March, our St. Baldrick’s event raised over $15,000 to support the fight against childhood cancer—an incredible achievement. And on April 16, we had the honor of hosting American Legion National Commander James A. LaCoursiere Jr. for dinner. Why did he travel all the way from Post 91 in Moosup, Connecticut? Because in just a few short years, Post 20 has earned recognition as one of the best-run American Legion posts in the nation.

With over 12,000 posts worldwide, we may not be the largest—but we strive to be the best. Everything we do centers on our mission to support veterans and serve our community. That mission thrives because of the incredible family we have here: Legionnaires, Sons of the American Legion, Auxiliary members, and volunteers.  Together, we make a difference every day in the lives of local veterans and those around us. Thank you all for being part of what makes Post 20 exceptional.

What’s around the corner: September 13 family picnic, live band, and lots of food.  June 14 flag retirement.  Electronic pull tab machines are around the corner, and as soon as the gaming commission finalized the rules, we will have at least 5 installed…

You may have herd me say this a few times: “we are all volunteers and doing the best we can”.

Please renew now for 2025.  We are on a streak breaking 100% even after losing a too many members to the Post everlasting.
